MONTMORENCY CONSERVATION DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Montmorency Conservation District Board consists of five directors. These directors are community members who have diverse backgrounds, but all share the common goal of conserving Montmorency County's natural resources. The directors help to steer the District in its conservation choices.

Elaine Carlson (Chairman):
Elaine is a ten-plus year veteran with our Board and currently serves as Chairman. She and her husband Tom reside in Hillman and are both Wildlife Biologists. Elaine is employed as a Wildlife Biologist for Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Tom is retired and currently operates a wildlife consulting business.

Bobbi Smart (Vice-Chairman):
Bobbi is serving in her second 4-year term as a Montmorency Conservation District Director. She and her husband live in the Lewiston area where they are dedicated grandparents to Bailey and Ryne, ensuring that the kids' extra curricular activities and education is top notch. Bobbi will not hesitate to bring home a snake or other creature to enhance the hands-on knowledge for the kids. She is a past Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, currently on the board for two Horse Associations Board of Directors and very active with our local fair activities. Bobbi is first to volunteer to assist with outreach educational activities--especially to our youth.

Tom Williams (Secretary/Treasurer):
Tom is serving his 20th year as a director of the Conservation District and co-chairs the Conservation Committee with Elaine Carlson. Tom moved to the Atlanta area after earning a B.S. degree in Soil Science at the University of New Hampshire in 1977. He retired from the Michigan Department of Agriculture in 2002. He is member emeritus of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America, a life member of Trout Unlimited, and a member of Huron Pines RC&D, Soil Classifiers Association of Michigan, and Michigan United Conservation Clubs. He enjoys gardening, amateur radio, boating, hunting, fishing and grandchildren. He and his wife Pam reside in the Atlanta area.

Dave Balog (Director):
Dave was elected to the board in October 2009 and will be serving a four-year term. Dave and his wife Michelle reside in the Hillman area with their two children Rachel and Nathan. They own and operate a 40 head cow/calf operation, featuring registered Hereford cattle. Beyond his farming activities, Dave also works full-time at the Hillman Power Plant. In his spare time Dave is very active with his children's' activities, and he and Michelle are very active with Montmorency County 4-H Fair and livestock committee.

Donna Hardies (Director):
Donna has served the district as administrator for 22 years. Having her back as a director brings a wealth of experience and continuity to our operations.
