Forestry Programs

The Montmorency Conservation District is partnered with Alpena Conservation District in providing a Forester for Montmorency County. Our Forrester is Brook Alloway.

The Forestry Assistance Program (FAP) is designed to provide an initial professional contact with landowners who are interested in actively managing their forested property. The FAP forester can then help citizens better understand, plan, manage, protect, and utilize their forest resources through various avenues of information, education, and outreach. Furthermore, all of our services are at no cost to the landowner and provide an excellent initial contact between professionals and landowners. We aim to promote forest resource stewardship on private lands in local communities by introducing landowners to forest management and setting them up to achieve their management goals. Landowners in Alpena and Montmorency counties place great importance in their landownership.

The Qualified Forest Program (QFP) serves a purpose to encourage private forestland property owners to harvest timber in a sustainable fashion based on a forest management plan. The management plan must be created by a Forestry Professional.

To better assist landowners with management of their forest resources, Brook Alloway, District Forester, is available to meet with landowners at no cost. Brook's service area covers Alpena and Montmorency Counties in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. Her office is located at the USDA Service Center, Alpena, Michigan. If you own land in need of management, then this program is for you! The Conservation District Forester is here to provide guidance to help landowners realize the full potential of their land. Guidance topics include advice concerning general forest management, timber harvesting, improving/creating wildlife habitat, food plots, tree and shrub planting, forest health/disease, and cost share programs.
